“
You Can Check Out Anytime You Like But You Can Never Leave” Well,
it came and it went. The BTS’s 17th Exhibition was yet
another vintage event and if you managed to get to it then we thank you
for your support. It has been a rough two years for the hobby in
Britain. A lot of the big shows have gone for one reason or another but
the BTS Exhibition marches proudly on. This year I was astounded by the
variety of species on display. Nice to see old friends Brachypelma
smithi making a welcome comeback (captive bred of course). New
additions in the shape of Cyriopagapus thorelli. (Now there’s a
spider for the connoisseur). I have to admit that I am left standing
these days on the new species appearing year after year. I really must
try to get back up to speed. The Europeans came in force and as always
we welcome their support and enthusiasm. The Dutch lads and lasses work
wonders at the end with the tables. Personal thanks here must go to
Thomas Ezendam who orchestrates his army with precision. (Like a true
General, leading from the back…only joking Thom) This
year we saw exhibitors from Germany, France, Holland and Belgium and
visitors travelled from as far as Hong Kong to seek out their favourite tarantulas. The BTS Exhibition is truly an international event. I was
asked several times at the show why we don’t do two a year the answer
is quite simple. Apart form the fact that it would probably kill Angela
and myself to run about that much twice a year the BTS Exhibition is a
unique event. One of a kind.
So it will remain an annual event and one that we hope to
organise for the foreseeable future. In
the words of Hotel California by the Eagles. “ You can check out
anytime you like but you can never leave” The
BTS Exhibition as come of age. The next one will be our 18th
and there WILL be something very special so make sure you don’t miss
it. Highlight
of the Day:
Ray Gabriel’s tales of adventure in the jungles of Borneo and
his fantastic pictures. (Well done Ray) Disappointment
of the Day:
The lack of Artwork in the competition. (I have to live with the Judge
you know and believe me one entry, albeit an excellent one, does not
please her) Thanks
