Vol. 21 No. 1
January 2006 issues in a new and exciting era for the British Tarantula Society's journal. Over the years the BTS have set miles stones in its publication of the Journal.

From those early days of just a few sheets of A4 paper to the incarnation to a A5 journal. The journal progress all be it slowly using the old method laboriously typing the text and cutting and pasting into a page layout these early beginnings of the journal stretched forward. This was a heavy task and the burden was diligently carried out by our first Editor, Ann Webb and a true publication was born.

With the progress of time, the paper quality was improved and with the induction of Peter Kirk at the helm as the new editor the Journal again passed into a new phase. With improvements in computer technology and Peter's unique editorial skills, the Journal once again moved forward with high quality monochrome plates, followed by the first colour plates thus setting the standard for hobbyist journals today.

After a long and productive time as Editor, Peter then moved a side and our current Editor Richard Gallon took up the reins. Richard had a daunting task to follow as Peter had set the standard extremely high. Would he be up to this challenge?

Richard decided he had to make his mark on what was now a professional quality publication. Taking the bull by the proverbial horns, Richard set about a revolution in production quality. Frank Webb; the Treasurer at the time was duly squeezed, not an easy task! He parted with the extra cash from meagre BTS coffers, and a colour cover was introduced.

The advances in technology and a change of printers allowed us yet again to improve the paper quality keeping the journal under the all important weight restriction of the Post Office.

Although not content with this new innovation Richard carried on with his new job with great gusto and vigour, and although he has now made his mark on this incarnation of the journal his mind was on greater things, and after a rather intense committee meeting and with great ovation and an unanimous decision, the vote was taken and passed - to go FULL colour!

So here you have it, January 2006 and after 21 years from the formation of the British Tarantula Society; Volume 21 number 1 is in full glorious colour from cover to cover!

This momentous achievement could not have been done without the hard work of fully paid up members and Committee past and present and a loyal and extremely supportive membership of which this would not be possible, so we thank you all.

These improvements to the society makes all the effort, dedication and work all the more satisfying when we can give something back to our Membership and with this new colour journal we hope we have done just that.

Get writing those articles, take those all important colour images, and let’s hope the next 21 years are just as good!
