The Sale of CITES Species at the BTS Exhibition
It is the responsibility of individual exhibitors to ensure they have the correct paperwork to allow the sale and purchase of any animal covered by CITES. The BTS will require such documentation to be available for inspection.
Current list of Appendix II spiders and scorpions:
- Aphonopelma albiceps
- Aphonoplem pallidum
- Brachypelma spp.
- Poecilotheria spp.
- Pandinus imperator
- Pandinus dictator
- Pandinus gambiensis
These species cannot be sold or bought unless they are accompanied by documentation showing the following information.
- Legitimate acquisition:
The crucial requirement is that you can prove the species was legally acquired. A receipt from the breeder or a breeder’s certificate showing date of breeding and date of acquisition.
- Exhibitors:
You should be prepared to show and provide documentation of the species legal origin to potential buyers or authorities upon request.
Failure to provide the relevant paperwork may result in the removal of the CITES species and the banning of the exhibitor at future events.
